Cumulonimbus
Laurel Swift (UCB)

Photography
Clouds represent a form of flow visualization that provide insight into atmospheric physics. Here, the trees in the foreground echo the clouds in this image of cumulus and cumulonimbus, with some altocumulus above. 10/3/2004, 3:30 pm, looking east from north Boulder. Cumulus clouds are formed by a buoyancy instability in the atmosphere. This image was created for a unique course on flow visualization that combined engineering and fine art photography students, faculty, techniques and concepts.
